Processes

Process A

Apply a dry cleaning solvent with a damp white paper towel. Blot, do not rub. Apply the solvent again in the same way. Blot, do not rub. Apply water with a damp white paper towel. Blot. Finish with a weighted pad of paper towels.

Process B

Gently scrape or blot up the excess spill. Apply a detergent (see the page on cleaning solutions) with a damp white paper towel. Blot, do not rub. Apply ammonia (see the page on cleaning solutions) with a damp white paper towel. Apply white vinegar (undiluted), with a damp white paper towel. Blot, do not rub. Apply water with a damp sponge. Blot. Finish with a weighted pad of paper towels.

Process C

Gently scrape or blot up the excess spill. Sprinkle on dry baking soda. Scrape. Vacuum up. Apply water with a damp sponge, rinse off the remaining baking soda. Do not overwet. Blot, do not rub. Apply pre-soak solution (see the page on cleaning solutions) with a damp white paper towel. Rinse with water as explained above. Blot, do not rub. Dry thoroughly. Apply dry powder cleaner (see the page on cleaning solutions). Vacuum up.

Process G

Scrape or blot up the excess material. Freeze with ice cubes. Shatter with the back of a large spoon. Vacuum up all the bits before they melt.

Process L

Apply nail polish remover (non-oily) to the stain with a cotton swab. Do not soak through the carpet backing. Pick up the softened substance with a white paper towel. Work from the outside of the stain inward, to avoid spreading the stain. Repeat. Each time you repeat, soften and gently pick up one layer of the substance. Proceed carefully, so as not to spread the stain or damage the carpet.

Process M

Gently scrape up or blot up the excess spill. Apply a detergent (see the page on cleaning solutions) with a damp white paper towel. Let stand for 3 to 5 minutes. Blot, do not rub. Apply a hydrogen peroxide solution (see the page on cleaning solutions). Let stand about 20 or 30 minutes under a weighted pad of clean white paper towel. Repeat the application of hydrogen peroxide and dry with a weighted pad of paper towel until the stain is completely gone. Apply white vinegar (undiluted) with a damp rag. Blot. Lastly, cover with a weighted pad of paper towel.

Process O

Gently scrape to remove the excess spill. Cover with brown wrapping paper and apply a warm iron to the paper, until all the substance has been absorbed. Make sure the paper covers the whole stain, and take care not to touch the carpet with the iron. Change or move the paper so as to always cover the stain with a clean surface. Repeat until all the substance has been absorbed.
